you can vote for whoever you want, but you can't then justify it by saying any of this was a surprise when it was all in plain sight and has been for literally several years

"who were we supposed to vote for" is really revealing phrasing btw. it was absolutely clear that the tories were going to get demolished and that reform were splitting the right, if there was ever an election to actually believe in something it was 2024
Yes, they were demolished by Labour because so many of us voted for them rather than for small parties that would have split the anti-Tory vote. I’m still not clear who you think we should have voted for?
So willing to lambast those who voted for this govt, we should have known etc etc but actually unable to say who we should have voted for to actually deliver a decent govt. Just repeating ‘not Labour’ over and over without giving an actual alternative. I’m done with this pointless exchange.
Everyone should vote for whichever party is closer to their politics.
If that's Labour, with it's racism, enforced poverty, transphobia, ableism and support for genocide, whatever, go vote for them. But if you don't believe in those things, don't vote for them and then pretend you didn't know.
there was no perfect option at the GE. No party aligned with what I’d like to see in govt & had a real chance of taking power. The choice: either vote for small party & split the anti Tory vote or imperfect labour. I don’t agree we could have foreseen how swiftly and far to the right they’d go.
- Wes Streeting flagellating himself for saying trans women were women and promising to action the Cass Review
- the PLP kicking out anyone to their left, including Jewish members of Labour
- parachuting in wreckers like Luke Akehurst into safe seats
- proposing More Cops to deal with migrants
I must be really stupid in that case, as many are queuing up to tell me! But no, it wasn’t obvious just how bad they’d be. Who btw do you think we should have voted for last year? With decent policy and a real chance of govt?
It was obvious how bad they would be. There was nobody to vote for. The choice was vote for somebody who would do this or vote for somebody you wouldn't hate yourself for supporting.
Labour would have won that election with anybody in charge. They could have won with a pig in charge.
Certainly wasn’t in their manifesto or campaign material. I don’t think anyone expected such extreme cuts. My husband has significant disabilities btw and relies on PIP.
i don’t blame you for not knowing, but disabled activists were warning people about Reeves and Kendall for years. even if they don’t have a clause in the manifesto, it’s easy to spot a pattern that two politicians who hate the welfare state, given a Cabinet post, would hack at the welfare state.
So how come the entire left was saying 'Labour will cut benefits to people with disabilities and the poorest in society' for four years before the election?
