Vancian has places and uses but requires specific moods and goals - setting limiters and resource scarcity. "Everyone is vancian" is also valid - wizard preparing fireball being no different than a fighter preparing bombs.
I find the setting and mood of Vancian not to be something I or most players are looking for very often. Gonna be happy to see it go as the default and perhaps remain as the exception in a class' feature or a variant rule.
