You're entitled to your opinion but anyway, you're missing the point. Pearson's complaint has been shown to be bogus and false. Starting from that premise, she and her defenders can't be taken seriously.
|Are you truly unaware of the power of words and the huge damage or good they can do? Why do you think regimes go after writers? And why do you think Musk bought Twitter? Because words matter, and lies matter immensely.
As @oldmanbigkid.bsky.social has pointed out, that is not at all what I said. It's a tad ironic that in a discussion about the importance of words and truth, you have chosen to make a statement that does not at all reflect the reality.
Where does @utlaegr.bsky.social post remotely suggest that?
It’s not about ‘arresting people for words’, it’s about what those words are. Again, it’s back to the fundamental point. Freedom of speech doesn’t and should come with freedom from consequences.
No. It entirely depends on the words you plum. You want to legitimise racism et al under your ‘championing’ of ‘free speech’ or as you and your ilk would call ‘hurty words’.
How do you square that with Trump’s stated aim of going after journalists?
You're a fan of Trump, Farage and by association, Musk, so you certainly aren't an absolutist. Farage sues anyone who offends him at the drop of a hat. Musk bans Community Notices that criticise him.
"Will no one rid me of this turbulent priest?" Phrase was made up in 1740 but Henry II definitely said some words that got Thomas Beckett killed. It is all down to audience. My neighbour has no social media accounts; she can say what she likes. A columnist for a major newspaper must be circumspect.
Oh, I’m sure they do know the full story and hopefully @lewisgoodall.bsky.social pushed back. Philps in particular has a long history of being disingenuous on the airwaves.

Contempt of court for repeating a libel? No consequences? Inciting murder/riot? No consequences?
Racist comments perfectly fine?
Freedom of speech shouldn’t come with freedom from consequences.
