Correct. But the UK is in some ways in even more of a mess than the US.
We have better chocolate. But we are still like this.

The UK is a mess, yes.
Cleaning up after Tory wrecking ball of austerity is nowt but shit. That said the US is now run by Leon, which is shit on a galactic scale. I want quality street back to the size and quantity that says stuff your face with my soft centered goodness.
