I remember as a kid thinking the concept of the VR FPS they play at the beginning looked like the sickest thing ever and today I'm hooked on VR shooters. One of the few ways the future turned out alright.
Thanks for sharing this. The scene brings nostalgic memories of my childhood and teenage years.
X files is my personal favorite show of all. I watched every episode, as well as the two X file movies, and even played and finished the PC and PS2 games based on the TV show.
people hate on that episode but I love it. It's an amazingly tone deaf example of boomer panic about video games while also exposing the incredible lameness of incels. It's great fun.
Yeah, I can totally get that.😉 Definitely one of the episodes where one better doesn't think too much about it. Some early Monster of the Week episodes are rather bland and uninspired. I remember fighting with myself over Jersey Devil, too.
I'd even say over time they learned to spice up weaker scripts, sometimes with stuff I'd almost call "fan service". For me, First Person Shooter would be an example for this. Or even better example: Hollywood A.D. (7x19). Awkward and cheesy? Yes! But I giggled.
I remember seeing it first time even before knowing too much about programming and it felt awkward, but it was an interesting spin. The episode still has so many (for me) iconic scenes in it, like Scully asking who'd even enjoy stuff like this or when she's finally "going in".😉
With that being said… I always tend to just turn off whenever I see "hackers" in movies or on TV who'd make antennas or wall sockets explode etc. but X-Files always managed to just make me want to stick. They had that special "spin" on things. Kill Switch (5x11) is still one of my favorite episodes.
Gamefully Unemployed did an entire run of every episode of X-Files, "Fox Mulder Is A Maniac", from the critical lens of Mulder being insane. They're on Spotify and I'm sure other podcast apps. But those have only a few eps, so you'd have to sign up to their patreon for all eps. HIGHLY recommended!!
These guys are so fucking funny. I could not recommend them enough. They did absolutely every episode of the show including the movies and revival. I've laughed so hard at damn near every episode
I am a huge fan of this show, but this episode always makes me squirmy on rewatches. It's well written, it just has a low budget direct to video Matrix clone execution
