Unfortunately the MP-E 65mm has been discontinued. There are still good options available, but it is disappointing this one is no longer available.

One of the things that is a blessing and a curse of the MP-E 65mm lens is that you have to get very close to your subject. It turns you into a bug whisperer. Could be I just need to get closer with my current kit.

I wish Nikon would make a similar lens. Their micro-Nikkors are fabulous, but that variable magnification while maintaining all the auto connectivity (especially the auto aperture) is just so appealing. I have the Laowa 2.5-5X lens, which is fully manual and thus difficult to use, although great IQ.

Canon discontinued the MP-E 65mm and you need an adapter to use it with newer mirrorless bodies. I think the Laowa lens is the only 5x lens on the market for Canon today.

I have the Laowa 100mm 2x which allows a little more distance and has auto aperture. I also have the fully manual Laowa 25mm 2x-5x which is a bit tricky, but a good lens.

Beautiful photo! Canon’s RF 100mm f2.8L Macro is a very nice lens and the Venus Laowa 90mm f/2.8 2X Ultra Macro is also a good lens at a more affordable price.

The settings and lens are totally fine, I take photos of insects with my telephoto all the time. So, wanting a different lens may also depend on your goals. If you want detailed close-ups of smaller subjects, a macro lens is helpful.
