Why do people ask you what type of cancer you have??

When someone starts to mention their own relative who passed away from the cancer I had. Thanks?

Because we want to know how serious it is. Some cancers are more treatable.

Very serious. If they can operate that’s great. My husband died of esophagus cancer.

I only started asking this after I had cancer, myself. For me, it’s really about learning the similarities and differences, what worked what didn’t work for others.

And I don't remember if I asked that before.

I’m in a cervical cancer FB support group. I also follow a kidney cancer group because of my friend’s cancer, but sadly she is in hospice care now.

I get that. Looking for what you have in common.
My husband died two months ago and people ask what kind of cancer he had. When I say that I was diagnosed, I usually say "with breast cancer". I'm more sensitive about my husband.
