Its hardly invented. Again we can go there but thats an incredible deep dive on southern football culture that I just dont think most are ready for.

I hated Miami during that time and rooted for Florida State against them every year. I didn’t care what region or conference they were in. And I lived in the mid Atlantic. I also rooted for certain southern teams. hated others. all based on the team.

Okay that's you. But literally there is a massive history that goes beyond single teams and expands to conferences and even HBCUS.

Dude. You literally just invalidated your argument. Miami and Notre Dame were two teams. The rivalry was based on two unique colleges with two different mindsets. It was awesome. Nobody gave a crap about a region or conference.

100%. Until the early 2000s nobody chanted conference slogans until some insecure wannabes figured out the SEC bandwagon could inflate their sense of frontrunner fandom. Add in the ESECPN factor. The inevitable backlash followed. As is the Schadenfreude true college football fans feel right now.

Lol I actually do root for other southern regional programs. ACC tends to come 2ndary but they also have programs randomly in the north due to the smaller conference size.

The major SEC teams are pure Bible belt. GA, AL, FL, TN, SC, MS. And more recently TX and OK.

Trust me when I say if ,and likely when, there is a major conference expansion they will be cheered for as well. Most ppl i know root for their team, teams within their conference then the surrounding regional teams. Its literally only SEC cause thats that's the conference.

What actually takes away from the game is taking statistically weaker teams to higher ranks and down playing the SEC or the amount it takes to actual play in the SEC. Put the teams up that are truly the best competitors with a full lense and not just b/c everyone needs a chance to participate
