I also used to think it was good to try to educate that way, but it definitely feels like head against a brick wall this evening.
But once they glom onto the conclusions they are happy with, anything contradictory must be incorrect, so your *facts* can't supersede their "facts".
Necessary evils are still evils, and minimizing engagement is a good goal.
But we have apparently failed at giving people the understanding to grasp multi-scale and multiple-component causation.
These people think one google article makes them a step from a Ph.D.
Sigh.
