Well said. Show of unreasonable force can incite the public more. You don't want that tinder box to start a major uncontrollable reaction.

And the media still blames the IRA for the violence when it all started because of attacks on catholic communities in the north.

The troops were brought in to protect Catholics from my people (Ulster Scots, Protestants) but quickly allied with the Protestants.
