I actually think the world has always been this bad (probably even worse in the past) but the internet and media makes it possible for us to see more of these problems on an everyday basis.

Oh there's absolutely no question. Every single moment in history was worse. Usually FAR far worse. Anybody on this website is unfathomably rich and secure compared to just about everyone who has ever lived. Which makes a lot of Discourse...kinda weird!
