I would not start with War of the Ring - start with something with fewer minis so you have a finished game sooner, and can see if you really like it. Also, the minis in WotR are flimsy, cheap, and have a tendency to not take primer well and end up sticky and tacky. - ThreadSky

Thanks! Noted! I have Gloomhaven. That has minis too, and just a few I think. I'll poke around and see what else has minis. Or maybe I can just buy a pack of minis for a game that doesn't have them.

War of the Ring is an obsessive rabbit hole though. One minute you're painting minis, the next you're sculpting and making strongholds - next minute you wonder where the years went 🤣

Also, the plastic used in WOTR is awful for painting. I washed them, primed them, used quality paint, quality clearcoat. But still ended up with tacky feeling minis.

It was: Scrub with soap and water. Dry. 2 coats of spray primer. 2 coats of paint by brush. 2 coats of spray clear. It's been years, and they will still stick to my fingers.
