On February 5th, 1885, King Leopold of Belgium literally stuck a pin in a map of Africa and drew a line around an area of land adjacent to it and declared, “I’ll have that”.
That land became known as the Congo Free State and from that day on he owned it. Couldn’t happen today though, could it?
