I think the background in schools helps too. He knows what having a job is like where bad things can happen and you need to own it, can’t just pass the buck and people are used to it.

/2 was go out and speak directly to rural voters. And he was so fucking good at it. There was a bit where he talked to farmers and union industrial users and he knew exactly the terms and phrases and concepts of their work that you could see these guys build an
/3 an immediate connection with him because they felt seen and understood. Not just on their anger and discontent but on one of the things they clearly feel makes them human beings.
/4 and I know full well that white men are one of the most privileged groups out there but you could tell that they were softened by feeling that connection and they listened to what he had to say, and psychologically we know that means they can open up to much more once that barrier is breached.
My favorite part of that article was the reference to “a Harris adviser granted anonymity to speak candidly” who then provides the least candid, most made-in-a-PR-lab useless statement imaginable. Very Politico.
