Is the Eigen error threshold (not) well known in biology and ecology circles, outside of e.g. mathematical population genetics?

I'm surprised when I see arguments 'the fact that evolution has not evolved away some deleterious thing that has a genetic basis is a paradox!' (e.g. cancer, Alzheimers)
