There are truly only a few “do not fumble the ball” music theory topics when teaching IMO, and the introduction to pitch class sets is one of them and mannnn I did not explain that clearly today. Literally haunts my dreams.

I have a bachelors degree in music ed, made straight As in theory and aural skills 1-5, and I taught ap music theory for three years. I did not know what this was. I googled it and did not like what I found.
I never even learned them in undergrad. I learned 12-tone and then I went to take my MM placement exam I was like “wtf there’s more than one type of math music?”
Eventually I will need to learn how to go directly from a deeply depressing administrative meeting into “chipper instructor” mode but today was not that day.
