Question for the room: What is some non-toxic dating advice you would give to straight men?

Given how commonly it shows up on these accounts and in the responses, I would suggest not following your romantic interest on social media!

Years back when I was dating, some women seemed very happily surprised when I showed genuine interest in their lives, with followup questions, etc. Not really a dating "hack" but I think it made me stand out from the crowd a lot!

oh my god so much this. a man who takes a genuine interest is so rare, and so attractive. as a semi-professional eavesdropper, it's wild listening to straight couples on dates. it's 90% male monologue.

I think this is probably extremely good advice for hetero men who are so often taught to center their "greatness" when trying to find a partner. Actually taking an interest in and caring about someone else is necessary to build an actual good relationship.

Don’t *try* to be interesting. Just have some depth. Have a hobby. Have friends. Go places. Read books. Try new things. Play a sport. Be a multi-dimensional human. And have something that makes you happy, not just a hobby that makes you enraged, such as doomscrolling.

Then let *them* ask about it.
