Just think - how many hours does an artist spend on one piece? When put in that context, doesn't the artist deserve a fair hourly wage? They do. - ThreadSky

A lot of folks who try and commission artists on the cheap keep asking for hours, days, weeks of work, and then "flat fee $low per completed xyz", which often times (not always though) ends up translating to like, $1-5 per hour. Yes, it's expensive, but stuff that takes time and effort usually is.

And consider this: When commissioning an artist, you're not just paying for their time, but for their skill and experience. Maybe even for their popularity- artists with millions of followers may choose to up their prices because there's too many folks wanting to commission them. (Idk, not me lol)

So yeah, a lot of fulltime rtists are expensive. But esp as freelancers, we take care of our own retirement, sick days, holiday pay, the works. And many US artists may not have access to insurance without a standard employer.

That's why we "charge so much extra". And we know times are tough.

No need to harass us over it in public replies, or even in DMs. You are entitled to your opinion, but not to our time or labour.

Treat artists with kindness and respect. Please. Harassing them isn't gonna make them want to take your commission any more than being polite.
