Not that scary and actually really bad and lame, Megan Is Missing. But because it’s so bad it feels realistic: The media making a circus out of what is happening, the cops being less than useless, and the murderer being the only person with brains in the movie. Really graphic and gross too.
Trigger warning for people who don’t deal with abuse well! It’s really graphic!! DO NOT WATCH if you can’t deal with innocent teens being, well, done the most horrible things you can imagine to them.
But holy hell does the perv creep you out… sometimes you know he’s there watching the protagonist girl making a vlog, for example. And you just want to nope out.
Blair Witch remake, I think 2016 or 2017 did it for me. Last horror I can remember. Everything I’ve seen in the past 10 years or so wouldn’t frighten a 4 year old. I mean, ‘jump scares’ aren’t scares so those only give negative points to a movie. I allow 1 per movie and only if the movie is good.
we watched this at a high school horror movie party and later I passed out on the couch only to wake up to the tv being on and PLAYING THE MOVIE FROM THE RING. turns out I’d rolled over on the remote and played it from the dvd menu but that’s probably the best scare I ever got from a movie
It’s a couple years old now. The generic-sounding name may have held it back a bit - I don’t think I would’ve watched it without a strong recommendation
Dog Soldiers!! Also Dead & Breakfast for a fun not-really-horror-but-kind-of if you can find it. And if you haven’t seen Late Night With the Devil that slaps, along with The Cleansing Hour and Ghostwatch
I love Dog Soldiers! Ghostwatch is great. Really enjoyed Late Night With the Devil but didn’t find it *scary.* Haven’t heard of The Cleansing Hour but I’ll put it on the list!
Cleansing Hour is in the same vein as ghostwatch and late night but yeah ok i haven’t been scared by a horror movie in a thousand years. But that documentary about sleep paralysis really scared me lol, The Nightmare
yeah thats kinda like getting viciously stalked/assaulted in that you see movie scares later and go “was that it” bc the scares were trying to jump normies into it softly
Oh shit probably. Only experienced it once but didn’t care for it. I’ve just drowned myself in horror movies since I was little so now I gauge them by delight rather than fear. The Unbinding is another documentary with some spooky supernatural stuff plus fascinating
The Witch. It’s scary at first because the girls family are being picked off but then it is scary in a different way because she realizes she didn’t actually love any of them anyway.

It’d help triangulate.
The Children
Let Us Prey
Uncle Peckerhead
Phantasm's got great weird vibes and atmosphere or Bubba Ho-tep if you want something simultaneously sadder and funnier than most other horror movies.
YMMV but they’re unique: No One Will Save You, Flight 7500, The Menu
In your list but still good: the Boogeyman, Malevolent, Umma

the cursed
