my four year old just found out about Pokémon. she saw a clip of Pikachu and instantly started asking me all sorts of questions so I showed her a picture of Charmander and she gasped and said “There are more??”

My kids are older now, so when the Pokemon fever hits this time of year (grade 1s have it the worst I find) we give our friend’s kids a mitt full each.
Wait wait, and for her birthday, show her an evolution of one of the ones you've already showed her and tell her that's what they look like after their birthday 😭
A free mobile version of the card game came out today (with microtransactions) called "pokemon tcg pocket"
I think I've got enough other things to occupy my time that I don't need to spend more time with it but might be something to have on the side besides the physical cards and such
Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee are definitely playable with a 4-year-old (I am a voice of experience here: my daughter is 6 and we're just getting into the trading card game. I managed to avoid that when I was younger but I love deckbuilding games so....)
3 months ago my nephew asked me what kind of card games we have a home. I made an offhand comment about some old Pokemon cards and vaguely explained what they were. He dove in head first, and I don't think he's talked about anything else since.
Oh! When my kids were this age, I also rewrote the lyrics to the Pokémon theme song for when I brushed their teeth.

I will travel throughout your mouth, brushing up and down…
Show her Mudkip show her Eevee show her Drifloon show her Wooper show her Cleffa show her Fuecoco show her Jigglypuff show her Chikorita show her Bidoof show her Torchic show her Marill show her Fidough show her Mareep show her Snom show her the one that canonically did 9/11 show her Oddish show her
Oh then I'm *definitely* upping my rec for Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee. They're a great nostalgia trip for us parents who played Blue/Red. Very playable with a small child.
Like I fully admit that I am not immune to propaganda/marketing here. But there are way worse things a kid can be into.

So many hurt feelings over trades and missing cards.
All my kids are/were “collectors” so I have soooo many.
I played Pokémon Go with them just I’d know what they’re talking about.
It’s a slippery slope!
Like full bars on Halloween.
The collector virus infects another human, dooming them to endless searching for that mythical & perfect moment of
…completing the set
TEACH HER THAT PIKACHU CHARMANDER QWILFISH AND DUNSPARCE ARE THE ONLY 4 POKEMON IN EXISTENCE
I think I've got enough other things to occupy my time that I don't need to spend more time with it but might be something to have on the side besides the physical cards and such
…But it’s her special interest 💜

The Right: "Son, will you shut the hell up about Pikachu for 30 seconds?!?"
Then you just say "yeah uh...sorry about that one Japan can be pretty racist sometimes."

(a) it’s a great momentary distraction for the kids when you need it
(b) they have made it addicting as all get out and you start getting things like Pikachus with silly holiday hats and stuff.
