Safest way to keep them from doing this is scaring them away without harming them is using loud noises. I'd recommend a pot and a spoon. They won't linger around areas with unfamiliar loud noises, hope this helps you not have plants eaten by these cuties lol
They actively try to avoid going to their nest very often not to necessarily lure predators away, but to be secretive about where their nest is. My cat always used to find the babies anyway. We have had many a baby bunny funeral in the past 😞
Every year, I have at least two nests in my back yard. I try to sweep for them, but ugh. It just kills me that they love the yard despite the fact there are three obvious predators.
There are more friendly ways to keep them away...try planting lavender, basil or marigolds around your perimeter..it will keep them away. They don't like the strong scent. Also onions and garlic work too. This can also work for other small wildlife as well.
I just dug up 6 lilac bushes & a bunch of other supposedly deer-proof stuff & replanted them inside a fenced area. The deer have won the war. 😭 May you have better luck against your bunnies.

I learned long ago basil can be grown indoors lmao. I have my own bun and a bunch of organic buns love to visit my yard as well. I grow herbs for them outside and for me inside
All creatures great and small...😊 Have permanent resident bunnies here, homing beneath my deck. They don't touch a thing in my herb garden, but mow to the ground emerging hostas! And learned long ago to forget about planting (100s!) crocus, tulips!😭😄
You don't have rabbits at your place? Lucky. They decimated my garden last year, but I couldn't bring myself to kill them, and I was unable to physically keep them out.
We had a nest of baby rabbits right behind our garden fence, that were small enough to fit thru the chain link and they ate every single living thing in our garden. I tried to keep them out with chicken wire, but nothing worked. This year, I'll not be so benevolent.
You can put chili powder on the plants you want to keep! Then maybe set up an area to the side (without the powder) for them? I remember my grandma doing that so she could take better pictures because they're so cute, haha 💓
