If I were answering, I might respond with something like, "Mr. Speaker, the honourable member has insisted for some time that the carbon charge is single-handedly driving up the price of groceries to unaffordable levels, and causing indescribable financial hardship for Canadians."

I would continue, "While Liberals are not convinced (and while all of the evidence suggests otherwise), we're willing to take a look at Mr. Poilievre's data and analysis. Surely -- since the leader of opposition has been saying this for months -- he would have adundant evidence for his position."

"Since Liberals are committed to facts and accuracy, Mr. Poilievre is invited to submit his supporting data so that we can examine it. In fact, we have an even better idea -- why does Mr. Poilievre not post his evidence online so that all Canadians can examine it? Surely Canadians would be curious."

That is what I'd do -- challenge Poilievre not just to hand over his evidence, but to do so in a magnificently public manner so everyone had the chance to see the quality of his arguments. And I would make that challenge every single time he mentioned the carbon tax during QP.

It's a perfectly rational thing to do but he's completely irrational and so are his supporters. Would it help? To the rational minded, yes, but that's not the target audience.

Having said that, it's still a great thing to do. That, and the sustained, "Why aren't you getting security clearance?"

If Trudeau chooses to retire, it would be wonderful to include remarks like "Even though I will become a private citizen, I am still bound by the official secrets act, so I regret I will not be able to reveal why Pierre Poilievre won't try to get official security clearance."
