Retro JRPGs π
Hi hi, I've played Chrono Trigger, SNES/PS1 Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Grandia :3
I hear good things about Suikoden, so I'm kinda interested in playing the remaster of the first 2 games :3
I feel you. I've had mine for about 12 years. Granted I didn't do too much with it but I made some awesome friends there. They'll find you again soon! The freshness is scary but also exciting since this place has a much nicer algorithm to find like minded folk.
General rule of thumb is 15 years. Yes, that means PS3 is getting there but like with all things I have a feeling we will have different eras we refer to.
Yeah, I get it. I don't really like to put a hard number of years, and mostly focus on how different it is from modern stuff though. Ps3 probably has a lot of things that I would consider retro, but a lot of games from there are just the same as modern entries.
Omg where do I begin. I think some of my first starters had to be Xenogears, FF7, Chrono Cross. Thatβs what started my love with the genre. After that I discovered Breath of Fire, skies of Arcadia, grandiaβ¦ and the rabbit hole began lol
Iβm very early on in the first Grandia right now (playing the fan translation of the Saturn version), and itβs been a good time so far. Lots of legitimately funny bits and interesting characters. (Iβm getting a bit lost in the dungeons, but thatβs a big βmeβ problem.)
Love them.
I should play more of the old SMTs, I loved 1 but for some reason I find 2 harder to get into.
Oh and Dragon Quest, I'm still waiting on the remake for 3 but I have never finished the ones from 4 to 8 despite liking them.
Pretty long games!
I'm more of a newer JRPG fan myself, but I really love the aesthetic and life that old JRPG's had. The only retro JRPG I've played was FF7 when I was like 8 but I really need to play Chrono Trigger.
Hi Bee! Feeds are your friend! Itβs in the side bar menu. You can search there for interests like βfinal fantasyβ or βretro gamingβ and the most relevant feeds will pop up and you can pin them ππΌ
My favorite game. I own the mobile version but prefer emulated for controller support. War of the Lions version with slowdown fixed and bring back chants for spells at a minimum would be great.
I definitely need to work on something here and adjust everything. I made this months ago and never really stuck to it so, guess it's time to work on it throughout the day at work
Yeah starting over is a huge pain, and while I never had a huge following, restarting always feels difficult, same as rebranding. I'm hoping maybe it can work out better for me here?
I love retro JRPGs! Iβve been more into modern JRPGs lately but retros heavily influenced my artstyle and interests in games and Eastern media going forward π‘οΈ π‘οΈ
hello π₯Ή I like Final Fantasy Tactics, Front Mission, and Secret of Mana. I've expanded out of JRPGs lately, but there are still many I haven't played yet!
I totally get you. It's sad what the space has become. The fact that they can literally make it unsafe for people is unreal. People have spent years on there making connections and friends so it's sad for sure.
I hope those folks come over here and find you here as well π
Not just retro JRPGs, but retro gaming in general β°(*Β΄οΈΆ`*)β―
Top of my head tho!
Final Fantasy IX
Legend of Mana
Chrono Trigger
Chrono Cross
The Legend of Dragoon
Grandia 1 & 2
Vagrant Story
Guardian Crusade
Ys series (bump combat!)
Super Mario RPG
Threads of Fate
Suikoden
Love turn-based JRPGs ever since the NES era (Dragon Warrior/Quest!). Big Atlus fan (loving Metaphor right now). Fan of random series from Wild Arms to Paladin's Quest.
Also, I make games. Cthulhu Saves the World & Cosmic Star Heroine are my best-known.
Metaphor is like "We know you like Persona, but what if we threw in the SMT battle system and some Etrian Odyssey in as well just for good measure?" It's like an Atlus Greatest Hits album and it's amazing.

BOF is very much on the list.
I still play some retro JRPG like the Chrono series and older Trails games. I am sure I am missing some others.

TwT
I have never played Xenoblade.
Currently mystified by Metaphor ReFantazio π
AHHH!!! God its so GOOD!!!
So much dialog to voice act..
Parasite Eve was another good one
Also, I never played many retro JRPGS, but the modern ones make me want to dive in for sure!
It's been sad to see what X has turned into. I have game dev/personal hero's that follow me over there. Feels like it's all lost now.
I hope those folks come over here and find you here as well π
