It’s not impossible and once again it’s all in their heads. Its not a lack of effort its more too much overthinking, trying to save teammates. If they would just not worry about the standings and play tough responsible hockey (with some extra risk and confidence)and do their jobs they will be fine.

I believed the Wings should've sold at the deadline. They were on a 4-game losing streak then, and they're 2-4 since. Toughest remaining schedule in the league at the deadline, and today.
The b2b losses to Columbus were the end of hopes I had of making the playoffs.

True, but the only players playing well enough have positive value are the young players that ideally would be part of the long term plan. Maybe you get a late pick for a Kane or Chiarot but that probably just exposes the lack of depth even more.

I agree with the lack of depth point, and Kane's NTC might have factored in.
But looking at what ended up being such a strong seller's market, I can't help but think there was a missed opportunity to add something to the future stockpile of assets, given the market behavior.

Yeah my hope at the deadline was that they’d be able to take advantage of the sellers’ market and move a bad contract like Tarasenko w/o having to retain as much or add as much draft capital to the trade. I think for me it all circles back to the bad contracts not helping on ice or as a trade asset

Agreed.
A contending team can have like 1, no more than 2 bad contracts. Wings have 5.
But the youth movement has been encouraging.
