I’ve thought this ever since I got into philosophy, reading e.g. Kripke and Putnam. No doubt there’s a lot of bad writing in contemporary philosophy! But so many authors are genuinely a blast to read, and many others are really solid

Hot take: A lot of philosophical writing is actually pretty great. More stylish than the sciences, clearer and more efficient and than literary non-fiction (and many humanities disciplines).

And that's fine, because it's not a written piece, it's a talk, and the evaluative standards are (rightly) quite different.
But also: any paper written like N&N should get desk rejected.
