Hah been there and done that. Also with court records. Since the indexes are often dodgy, I will read the entire order book etc and start to follow up on cases that have nothing to do with who I am researching. Shiny keys …

Historic newspapers are such a rabbit hole! That car and balloon story is wild, but ‘the woman milking and she expired’—you just know the writer chuckled while penning that one. Found any other gems?

I usually keep a running file open while I'm searching the newspapers, to put interesting titbits in, and then go back to them later.
Some of the best stories come from that file.
