I drove to this hospital because they are one of the best, and in my opinion; especially when it comes to treating people of color. Immediately once I arrived at JHU, they admitted me to have an MRI done. What was found was completely frightening, and knowing what was found was going to change my life forever. In the midst of all of this, their staff offered so much assurance that everything was going to be okay.

So I guess, you might ask: What was found? After long waits because they wanted to make sure they were seeing what they were seeing, they had their neurological team come to my room and tell me they found a thrombosis aneurysm on the right side of my brain.

I couldn’t believe, what my ears were hearing and seeing. What was also weird is they said that its placement in my brain is blocking blood flow from one side of my brain to other vessels. They were shocked b/c even though I felt like I was having a seizure, I wasn’t. And there was no signs of…

a stroke. Since a part of my brain wasn’t getting the proper blood flow…they wanted to keep me there and get a second opinion on the thrombosis aneurysm. So I had to wait for another neurologist to review the MRI report, which was a good call on JHU to consider a second opinion

The seasoned neurologist came to review if in fact it was a thrombosis aneurysms, and it wasn’t. It is a brain tumor. At this point, I didn’t know what was worse, but the question of the malignancy of this tumor also needed to be researched by a neurosurgeon. How they did this was through

the conduct of a procedure called an angiogram. Neurosurgeons have 3 ways they can enter to check what’s happening in your skull, and that’s through the wrist, nose, or thighs. I opted for the wrist because it’s easier to heal.
