I will continue being loud about Scarlet Violet's Area Zero being one of the most phenomenally executed pieces in a Pokemon game both in the build up to reaching it paying off and the space itself feeling so distinct from anywhere else you explore in Paldea. the juxtaposition when you get to Area Zero just Hits with the unnatural rock formations and blooming but desaturated colors. it's the fictionalized video-gamey contrast to everywhere else in the Paldea map's commitment to being realistic regions to explore

also dovetailed really well with the way pokemon games have become increasingly character/narrative driven. they introduced the box legendary as a personality immediately, hiding it as a mount and then having it pay off like that was genuinely so cool in the moment

The theme Toby made for this area also really helps to make this area feel alien. Going from the chanting to the booming synths really give a grand atmosphere to this place and make you wonder what you're getting yourself into. It's so fucking good.

the only thing that mars it for me is the terrain shadows not rendering at a distance. It’s so strange to head under a big overhang and see bright sun ahead of you, only for the shadow to stretch as you get near it.
