B became a magnet for cameras! Everyone ❤️ the sign, wanted photos of it.
A few people asked "Who is John Lewis?" & they were serious! So we explained.
2 of the kids who asked (maybe 18-25 year olds?) were black. It was wild, B & I were teaching Civil Rights history to these young Americans.

That was my exact question/suspicion. History, however recent, is transient right now. Disposable. Malleable & fit to taste. Lewis is elemental to anyone over a certain age, likely Gen X and up. I really fear that this lack of prologue is resulting, and will worsen, into avoidable nightmares.

I feel you. It was surprising to me. And motivates me to speak up more.
Oddly enough, both youngsters knew about Cory Booker talking for 25 hours. So we were able to link his activism/inspiration to his friendship with John Lewis.
