I mean this battle plan has bewildered Ukraine’s allies - imagine how this is baffling and making the Russians paranoid
Whatever the strategy is - it’s certainly shaken the narrative up and reawakened international interest
Is it possible they are showing ordinary russian citizens first hand that their leader is totally full of bs and losing his so called special operation?
Hard to tell right now. Ukraine has sent two of their best brigades in so they’re taking it seriously. One suggestion is destabilisation of the Russian regime and trying to whip up protests.
I was also reading that this approach introduces more fluid engagements which suits Ukr capabilities. The attritional engagements this year are more comfortable for Rus. Let's see how this plays out.
Could be a number of things, hitting logistics hubs and cutting supply routes is a possibility. Forcing Ivan to reassign troops from the front would be another, Ukraine has planned for a fight in Kursk, Russia hasn't.
I wonder if last year's failed combined arms offensive was a learning exercise which AFU has leveraged to do better this year? 👍🏼 I also wonder what affect the threat of F-16 air cover is doing in this scenario. The Russians have colossal quantities of KIA every day. The country is hollowing out 🤦🏼♂️
I haven't seen statistical trends but my impression from seeing daily losses is that the rate of KIA has climbed sharply. We always wondered how sustainable this Russian aggression was but I see no adjacent signals about social instability. The world needs a better (non-imperial) Russia.
Russians never had democracy, therefore they are not used to talk or act against their regime. It's almost impossible if some social convulsions break out there and Putin knows that. I can't imagine how the citizens could convince the regime to stop the war. World powers have bigger leverage there.
old Kamaz trucks with milicians on bord. Real troops not yet sent as reinforcement. Kremlin wants to get Donetsk, point. It's an highway to Kyiv, so they don't care about the "holy ground" lost in the meantime.
