Morning Bluesky.
Apparently “long-term shareholder value” is important.
More important than the planet, our children, our children’s children and the human race in its entirety.
Who knew?

Shareholders have pushed all green pledges towards the bin because BP have only raised profits by 36%.
Never accuse a corporation of that size of having a conscience or even a soul.
I wouldn't
If we want to be a responsible and foremost a successful species, we will need to think on geological timescales, not on the timescales of political terms of office.
We could change that, but right now I feel like we won't.
Profit before values again here with BP.
Fortunately they saved enough cash to bribe fraudsters like Starmer to stall with scams like Carbon Capture.
it’s not long-term value, there’s a limited amount of oil in the ground, there’s virtually unlimited sunshine
If oil didn’t come free out of the ground it would have been out of business a very long time ago
Presumably "until the current board gets to cash in their options and retire", five years not 25.
If BP's management don't do this, their shareholders will replace them with people who will
If we want oil majors to focus on the energy transition, we have to change the market through regulation or incentives
No point blaming BP's leadership... they have tried.

The same principle needs to be applied to petroleum companies and the TRUE cost of the harm to our biosphere reflected (subsidies and exemptions removed)
If that doesn’t then spur the move to renewables en-masse then nothing will
Welcome to “Bugger the Planet”.
