My husband’s 2x gr grandfather was PA’s Gov. Andrew Curtin, who accompanied Lincoln at the Gettysburg Address. I have Major Nicholas Snowden Hill, CSA, my 2x gr grandfather from Baltimore, and Homer Sheeley from Ohio, who served in the Union Army for the last months of the war. #Genealogy
My gggrandfather Robert Thomas Forrester (1843-1888) enlisted in Company A, Thirtieth Illinois Volunteer Infantry, on August 16, 1861 and served until March 30, 1863, when he was discharged, and re-enlisted in Company I, Mississippi Marine Brigade. He was finally mustered out, January 18, 1865.
My Irish Yankees were just arriving. My Southerners are heavily represented in the Confederate forces. My 2nd GGF and 9 of his 10 brothers all served and all survived. Only the baby brother was too young to serve.
3rd GGF James C Huntington (6th ME Infantry, Co H & 1st ME Cavalry, Co D)
2nd GGF William Kelsey (15th NJ Volunteers, Co D)
There may be more, but those are the two I'm sure of.
