IMO, disabled and older folk should focus on de-escalation and bystander intervention techniques alongside weapons and firearm training.

Oh absolutely, getting out of a dangerous situation is the ideal, for sure. Which weapon(s) would be the best choice based on physical abilities, though, is something I've been exploring.

That really all depends on each individual's physical capabilities and threat assessment. There are way too many combos to list them all. Is there a particular physical ability and threat assessment you're interested in?

If they can run, but can't fight i would recomended pepper spray or a good flashlight. If they can fight, but cant run then a baton or knife. If they cant do either, then handgun. Or cary all three for different levels of escalation.

Hi! First off, what is the threat assessment? Are we talking about schoolyard bullies, interpersonal/relationship violence, random attackers (mugging, SA?), and/or targeted harrasment (anti queer/trans, BIPOC, etc...)?

They will want to train multiple disciplines and have a balance between striking (muay thai and boxing) and grappling (jiu-jitsu and wrestling). IMO, grappling should be the focus when dealing with schoolyard bullies and interpersonal threats and striking for random attackers and targeted harrasment

I replied above with my martial arts opinions. In addition to those i would also recommend verbal de-escalation and bystander intervention skills. Those along with pepper spray and a solid flashlight goes a long way.
