I'm sorry to hear that. We are fortunate that we had more services available when the boys were younger. Parents of young autistic kids are having a horrific time with schools.

It's been wild seeing the difference between my own kids' (3 years apart) experiences. A huge factor was COVID, but it's been tough seeing that even in a really good district in a blueish state that is trying to improve, external factors seem to be impeding all the progress that had been made.
My boys 'should' be graduating this year, but they are taking another year. I told them that right from the beginning, to consider it. Gr 7&8 were full of lock downs. Gr 9 still had some Covid oddness. They need time to be teenagers & to mature.
That's awesome that the school is on board with that! At one of our (many 🫠) meetings with 12's school they kept saying their goal is getting her ready for high school and to join the workforce and I kept having to reiterate that she WILL need more time. She's on her own growth curve and it's fine!
They have a small ASD resource room & J has had a few spares because of course changes. He needs another year to get enough courses. He can stay in school until 21 in theory. The gov't is trying to discourage that of course. M wants to take a few more courses before uni.
