Merrick Garland was never the right man for the job. When I realized that, about a year ago, I changed my mind about him. That’s how adults are supposed to act. Don’t get married to your original positions.

If you remember his confirmation hearing whereby he became emotional discussing the Holocaust and his connection to it while denouncing this despicable chapter of history not to ever happen here? In a broader sense he allowed it and by being politically cautious boosted it.
merrick garland was wrong in 2016 when Obama nominated him for SCOTUS to please republicans, and it was wrong of Biden to nominate hoim for AG knowing what was at stake. Seems like top democrats playing the oligarch's game too.
I kept hearing that we needed to have faith, it takes time, he has this etc all the while I had a belief that they wouldn't prosecute Trump. I'm sad to say I expected this. Our government by the people and for the people is really about protecting white rich men in power.
Ugh. You wanted trump indicted. He was indicted. It went to the courts where it became the responsibility of the court. MG did what he was supposed to do.
The second the "prosecuting from the bottom up" theory appeared, I knew Garland was a fraud. If you prosecute an insurrection from the bottom up, you knowingly leave people in positions of power in the very government they tried to overthrow. It was complete bullshit.
A consultation prize appointment is never a good idea. He was put in a position to review some of the same dreadful traitors who blocked his nomination as a justice. Therefore, anything he did would be looked at suspiciously and rightly or wrongly deemed as “weaponizing” or revenge.
.
I Rallied for Merrick Garland because it was clear the J-6 Committee would not give them their Transcripts. which
made big Delays in the investigation. I now realize he is
TOO cautious for an A.G. Everyone Knew we had a short
amount of time
he might have made a Great SCOTUS with his Caution
.
And all those people who defended him and made excuses can f right off! Merrick Garland has ties to the Federalist Society. He’s listed on their website as a contributor. Nobody saw the red flags???
Yes it was. Another failure to defend democracy was his delayed Ukraine support until too late.
Insiders say Biden's main feature was how long he took to take action on key issues - and justice deferred is justice denied. Democracy needed strong defense in 2021, not dithering weakness for 4 years
I totally agree with you. I was giving him all kinds of leeway and I truly thought he was working on things but not letting anyone know what he was up to. I am so disappointed that Joe got it wrong. When are the Dems going to stop playing it by the rules? We've been accused to going after those who
Merrick Garland failed Joe Biden, American People, & failed to take necessary action in a timely manner to protect our Democracy. What happen to his quote that no man is above the law? He lied
Let's say the basic: in 2021 Senate Republicans could — and should — have voted to convict Trump after his second impeachment, which would have prevented him from running again for the presidency. Instead, almost every GOP senator let him off the hook.
Agreed.I feel like Biden gave it to him as a sorry. Bc he got screwed over for his USSC nomination. a lot of good ppl supported him though, I didn't believe in him 😔
Personally, I was hoping for Sally Yates. The 🐖 got away with it all!
At this point what I expect to happen in the next 4 years is absolutely nothing. Everybody recognizes what a menace he is, but nobody's brave enough to stop him. So instead we'll just put up roadblocks and stagnate. Fuck trump.
Likewise for me. Also concluded that insofar as Trump is a witting traitor, a hesitant US Justice Department has shown itself as unwittingly treasonous.
STFU about Garland! He is not the only reason! It was McConnell preventing 2 peachments, it was Fox brainwashing idiots. Garland had nothing to do with those events! You constantly say that. Geez. Get a wider range of info, Dude!
Don’t get me wrong, I would still have preferred him on the bench to any Trump Supreme Court pick, but he most certainly would not have been Bernie Sanders’ Supreme Court pick. His prior career suggested he would always be too willing to do the bidding of corporate paymasters.
Garland was a paid advisor to the Federalist Society - his Republican background was the main attraction for the appeaser "defender of democracy" Joe Biden. The 3 year delay before Jack Smith, was all the time Trump needed. Bye, democracy, hello Jimmy Carter 1 term redux
I knew he was not right for the job a few days after he was appointed. That's when I found out he was Republican. I knew he was loyal to the Party first.
I had high hopes when he was appointed. I continued to have hope... for a while. Yup, I was wrong. Guess it some consolation that I wasn't the only wrong one. Doesn't do us any good now however...
I’m sure you mean “when I realized that, about a year into his tenure”, not just a year ago.
I realized it when he punted on the OoJ cases Mueller had teed up and the extortion of UKR that Congress had uncovered and vetted and impeached him for.
I also wanted to give Merrick Garland a chance. I am profoundly disappointed in him and his inability to hold this rapist, racist, felon accountable for what he did on January 6.
I often ponder what he would have been like on SCOTUS. How effective would he have been? I mean, I wish the turtle didn't fuck his nomination but watching him handle things the past few years does raise an eyebrow.
I took heat from a big account for questioning Merrick’s slow progress to prosecute.
Was told I’m not an attorney so I can’t have an opinion.
For the record, she isn’t an attorney either.
She’s also blocked. 🙂
Glad to see you come around on this, Jack. I, too, held out as long as I could, giving him & DOJ the benefit of the doubt. That they were working dutifully, diligently, behind the scenes, that of course we, the public, wouldn’t be privy to. In the end, it was all smoke & mirrors. Disheartening. ❤️🩹🇺🇸⚖️
I turned on him pretty early, at the pace of Ellie Mystal.
Later on, Lawrence Tribe finally turned sour on the guy as well. I knew it was over when Tribe was cutting him down.
The entire coup was not taken seriously. So many dirty politicians participated, without a single scratch.
While I understood the initial nomination by Biden, it became obvious 1-2 years into his term as AG, he wasn’t up to it & should have been replaced. I always felt that Sally Yates should’ve gotten the nomination.
I want to believe Garland wanted justice, but was told to back off. Likely, threats to his life or that of his family were made. Someone is protecting Trump, Gaetz and the rest of his cronies from from receiving justice. That any of his people did time is amazing.
Yes, I'm disappointed by him as well. His place was on the Supreme court, turns out the position of Attorney General for him was a consolation prize for being the victim of Republican politics. More damage will be done to our trust in the institutions to protect us. Maybe that's a good thing.
Maybe that's a good thing, because we know those institutions once worked like a well-oiled machine. We have to find out why it's working like there is saw dust in the gears just to keep the knock down these days. Time to purge the body politic?
He knew very well that it would move slow as a snail through the system. So his intention was to start it late and let trump run again. He's Federalist Society, I cannot believe Biden left him there. Frankly why was he there at all?? I'm seriously starting to have issues with many democrats as well.

Would he have been a disaster as a SCJ?
I’ve been wondering about that as well.
I think there is much left uncovered in his entire story that only history telling will unveil for future generations.
Hopefully with an honest critique & understanding of how to avoid ever appointing someone like him again.
As far as I’m concerned, Garland let the biggest criminal in the history of this nation off the hook.
t-rump should be in prison right now along with a lot of his supporters.

He should have seen the failure garland was and replaced him.
Our leaders want this for us. Yes, all of them.

While all was on display and clearly signed, the case should have been closed in 2 years.
Biden got drunk with his own wine, and failed to see the reality.

What a colossal disappointment he turned out to be.
thought he would kick ass!!!
Turns out he’s the biggest failure in US history!!!
