Ace's expression and that 'dad' makes me think of that 'dad's going to hold you now' from when he was indeed the (barely not anymore) stinky child. Still breaks my heart. But he's alive! ...maybe with a dad in his life beyond WB he was less taunt-vulnerable and didn't stop to fight Akainu.

Doffy could have literally intervened for his own popcorn amusement if he could do it sneakily enough that the navy doesn't notice. 'n if Croccy had said half a sentence about all he cares is getting the kids out of there alive, well... your wish is command, and such things.

Oooh, if Doffy just did it to see what would happen (and because he knows these kids mean something to Croc) and Crocodile then later hears from Ace that he survived because it felt like an invisible string was pulling him... Well... Croc will find a way to show his gratitude.
