While the AI Ember seems to use is apparently the assisting, streamlining kind rather than image-generating, artist-replacing garbo, I don't blame people to panicking. It's a slippery slope and we need to speak up while it's still in beta.

like yeah i even remember them almost a decade ago trying to work out auto in-between tools and other "assist" stuff but nobody i know actually used them. they were pretty much garbage and no faster than manual. maybe we'll get lucky and they'll ditch it after a bit?? 🙃

TBH has been investigating technical AI since long before the "art" now. It sounded like it wasn't just technical though, but upscaling images and textures apparently, which really needs a bit of a confirmation of usage. If it was a better Envelop Creator then... hm maybe

yeah that's why i hate the AI as catch-all branding too...really confuses a lot of end use goals and obscures so many tools we've had for years for things like optimization, pipeline needs, etc. and it's so tiring having to re-research all of what's going on as a user!

the more i look into their update the more i hate it, it's not egregious but a lot of it is slapping ai on something that doesnt need it to work (a SEARCH BAR?), or has shakey morallity and functionality(background upscaling and masking)

I've not touched Toon Boom Harmony in months because I've kind of moved over to Clip Studio Paint for traditional hand drawn animation, but I REALLY hope someone makes a better alternative to Storyboard Pro because that's always been my go to program for storyboards.

Started learning Moho literally yesterday.

Just as a warning, at least one of the official tutorials that I’ve wayched is set up in a way that makes it a pain to do with Debut. (The tutorial involves importing a .PSD with like two dozen layers but Debut puts a 10-layer cap on imported files)

version 3 of Clip Studio EX is about as easy to storyboard in as TV paint, a little more annoying to animate in but it has vector features! also cheaper in general and even cheaper if you snag it during one of their annual sales. i think i paid like 140 for my perpetual license

I remember trying some iPad apps when I started hoping I could find something portable that could use (I had to sit at a computer with. Wacom cintiq to use storyboard pro) but nothing else really had the features I wanted. There’s definitely a window here for someone to take up this market.

FYI Blender also uses machine learning (AI) for denoising. Neural networks with an ethical training set are just useful tools for image processing. While their branding could have been better... The reason to oppose generative AI isn't in the tech its in its antihuman intent and stolen data sets.
