A friend clearing out old scrolls belonging to her late parents let me have this one by Yu Youren (!). Yu, several times jailed between 1906-1911 for starting revolutionary newspapers, wrote out this Li Bai poem for my friend’s grandfather, also a newspaper publisher, between 1949 and 1964.

渡遠荊門外,來從楚國游
山隨平野盡,江入大荒流。
月下飛天鏡,雲生結海樓。
仍憐故鄉水,萬里送行舟。
Passing far beyond Jingmen Ferry,
Soon you will be traveling through the south,
Where the mountains end in level plains
And the river winds through wilderness. (1/2)
The clouds weave themselves into palaces above the sea,
But the waters that flow by your home
Will bear your departing boat company for ten thousand li. (2/2)
