The low-fi, high-function DeepSeek reveal reminds me of the old Cold War space race parable. NASA poured funds into inventing a zero-gravity ballpoint pen that would work in space. The Soviets just used pencils.

Reminds me of the Clayton Christensen* story about Nucor; incumbents said, "recycled scrap steel is bad", and Nucor said, "watch us sell this rebar", and a few decades later everyone's buying high quality steel from the rebar guys.
