The Book of Boba Fett had its moments but I was disappointed with the small scale of action and the (to me) incredible change in Boba's personality. I feel like they could have done much better had they stayed true to his character.

I would say both. His character in Mandalorian episode was at least recognisable with what we knew of Boba from the movies and extended universe fiction. I.e., he was ruthless but professional. In the Book they showed him uncharacteristically talkative, helmetless, & not very strategic.
I didn’t know anything of the extended universe, but if they diverged from it I can see why people might hate it. The only part I hated from BoBF was the mods.
I can see the pun they’re going for, but they felt out of place. Felt more Doctor Who than Star Wars.
