Alligator was on tv all the time when I was a kid. Like five. I think it was the first horror movie I ever saw. Formative enough that for years I had nightmares about being pursued by a giant alligator in a sewer, until after I transitioned. Implying the gator was the change that had to catch me. 🐊
It was such a bad movie. Set in Chicago, but clearly filmed in LA. But man, that pool scene had given me some nightmares as a kid. I did like the star scene with this guy where he comes out of the sewer, but personally, I liked the sequel with Richard Lynch and Kane Hodder more.
Bad movie? That’s a funny way of spelling good movie. John Sayles taking a story about a gator getting big on beer suds and reworking it into a commentary on how the powerful don’t care until danger is at their door, with 1312 in it? I must disagree. The original is best.

I also rented it on almost a weekly basis from the weird local supermarket that also had a VHS rental section
