The kids doing this probably didn't even know what COBOL *was* until now. I deal with accounting, and the websites I use to pay a client's things like sales and income tax every week/month/quarter have already started acting squirrelier than usual. 🫠

COBOL is a genuinely archaic programming language. But trying to do this in a rush is INSANE. And you can bet a huge, huge number of things are going to break. Even in very simple code bases, understanding the levels of dependencies built up over decades takes a huge amount of time.
