We all understand it can lead to all sorts of hateful comments, but that doesn't mean we're insecure about our size or the costume we chose to wear.
It's well-meant, but maybe we aren't "brave" maybe we just rock the look and no one can ruin that feeling? Maybe we just don't care?

You guys barely call thinner cosplayers brave and such for cosplaying. I kinda get why folks say this to us and usally most folks have no ill intent, but even so.

We say you're brave because we know you're going to face abuse from the usual suspects and so do you, yet you proceed anyway. That takes bravery. That's the intent with which it's said, anyway.

As mentioned I get why, but that doesn't always make it always ok. We already know it and face it already. Our bodies shouldn't always be a "political statement" (perhaps a better word?) when we're just doing everyday things. That what we hope for!
