I think this is right. It’s the natural end state of decades of cowering in moral terror over being seen to be “biased”.

I think the skeleton key for understanding American media elites is that they've become utterly convinced that Trump and the Republican Party do represent the Will of Real Americans™, so agreeing with their worldview in principle is an absolute prerequisite for attuning yourself to the Volksgeist.
