It was reported at the time Lo Celso joined Betis. It looks like an odd deal and the details have always been a bit vague. Presumably, players as part of the deal would be a way of reducing the cut that Spurs get because they would undervalue those players
Fair. Other thing I’ve seen is that the option has a timeline. So he may not “sign” for AM until that runs out and just dodge spurs until it’s no longer in effect
I'd be surprised if Spurs were that lax in drafting the clause. It forms part of the fee for Lo Celso, so I really doubt that it is time limited. The window where we have a preferred option to sign him is limited to 10 days at the start of the transfer window
The number being 10mm higher than Spurs reported option to buy also suggests that the number has to be higher to compensate a middleman like spurs. Maybe the player value is doing the work like you suggested, but it does seem like there’s more going on than a two party sale.
