There is nothing wrong to learn something from another beginner, who might better remember which things were hard and which were not. Ranglan and round/circular are both types of yokes, which don't necessarily have separate words in all languages, so maybe one should try to explain the difference?

I think there are limits to what one beginner can teach another. And though it's fair point about translating terms, it's also true that what inspired my post was from English as a first language speakers.

If there is a year between their skills it is quite a lot, and calling someone who has practiced a craft for a year a beginner sounds very much like gatekeeping. When does one cease to be a beginner? Hobby crafting has different aims and purposes, and each of those are equally right aim.

It's not gate keeping to note that people who don't have sufficient knowledge of a topic - in this case different top down sweater constructions - are likely to pass down insufficient knowledge.

The hobbyist will have an easier time reading the pattern if they have a good base of knowledge

Many knitters never use a pattern, they don't want to be limited to patterns, or they learn from early on how to count their own measurements. As a crafter and textile researcher I know there is a lot of insufficient knowledge passed down on all levels.

Words are very important, but if there are no crafters to use the words correctly, they become obsolete anyway. So instead of judging people of using wrong words, maybe ask if they would like to know more and then point to right way.

A raglan sleeve has diagonal seams.
A circular yoke the "seams" of the sleeves are along the yoke edge and not diagonal.

I don't think you're part of the problem. There's nothing wrong with not knowing everything about every aspect of knitting. I love knitting because there's also something new to learn.

Yes. I'm thinking if shooting a video about it. Like I know some claim it's a trend. I think it's just bad/less functional design. ... I say this as someone that loves a dolman (batwing) sleeve.

Babes leading babes. I do wonder if being YouTube babies causes some in their isolation to learn things like confusing ktbl with a knit stitch in the round. Why having knitting communities via LYSs and other venues or guilds is so important.

What I can't stand are the drama and unpopular opinion YT videos. I knit and crochet to avoid drama to find that little book of calm.
