Put differently: it’s clear they want an elite attacker, they obviously have a firm idea of who that even applies to and due to circumstances beyond their control weren’t able to sign said player last summer. Sterling the bridging option; if you look at his history, isn’t the worst choice ever made.

Merino has shown absolutely 0 clearly not a prem player.
Sterling was the most arsenal transfer ever.

I’ve always liked the player but recognised his flaws. I think we overpaid and it’s been a big jump for him (so far).

I’ve seen good things but he needs to be quicker with all of his actions. He slows us down too much at the moment.

Do you think something happened in the summer between Edu and Mikel? Reading between the lines in Athletic pieces, there was a lot on Mikel pushing for a player when others felt investment was needed elsewhere. I think when we look back it could be one of the most costly ones in recent memory

If I’m being brutally honest with myself our left has never recovered from Xhaka moving on. Rice is probably where we took a wrong turn. Wrong player at the wrong time for too much money and then having to build back from there.
