People are like “I could do what you do” and I’m like good luck figuring out the seven workarounds I have to do to get my printer or vinyl cutter to do exactly what I want every single time that I discovered through days of horrible trial and error

This^^ So infuriating. And then they whine 'coz nobody is doing what we told them'. Uh huh. Coz they don't know how. Or why. Or when. (I've given up on my current project. They will not listen. And never learn).
Oh, you’ve assigned someone from your own team to handle use documentation and training? What’s that: your system is so intuitive that you don’t even need that?
Well, good luck to you with embedding the required uptake to achieve the desired outcomes…
I'll bet the Venn diagram of those people, and of the dudes who think they can score a point off Serena Williams in a tennis match, is a circle. Or close to it.
legitimately this is the thing - growing up as a tradies kid, the "shortcuts" I learned from some time on building sites, makes me faarrr more capable at basic carpentry than I have any right to be.
It also instilled in me the belief that quality tools are always worth it.
I’ve been watching people at work getting about 150% out of our wide format and creasing/cutting machines by this exact method for about a year now.
Absolutely zero chance I could do it 😂
And being prepared to invest when you actually have to upgrade your tools, ‘cos you can’t do the things you want to the standard you want with the free/cheap versions.
(I really need to upgrade my vinyl cutter. The second hand Scan’n’Cut I’ve had for 10+ years really doesn’t, um, cut it any more.)
The measurements and pixels and colour choices and EVERYTHING has to be perfection. It’s incredibly stressful working it all out. Boo to those people that say that to you. 💜
I just say, "Great! I'd love to see your work!" And then I bring it up every time I see them after that, just to emphasize that they could, but they didn't.
It's so much easier to tear people and things down than to build. What they are saying is they could do what you do if they had the same motivation, followed the same steps, and resolved the same problems you have. In short - they can't. :)

I need a play at some point… Our new coaster packaging is going to be so pretty, but needs precision cutting.
We also just got a printer to convert to sublimation. 🤓
I code in a language called Delphi, which has lineage back to Pascal. It's quite English like in it's syntax.
This article is using a very old version, but the workflow hasn't changed much.
