Adams has been signaling that he isn’t going to be on the primary ballot anyway. A potential Cuomo victory in a special election was a reason not to do it a month ago, but we’re past that point.
the issue is that if Adams is removed, Williams (who's very much a progressive) will be the mayor, and April-June is enough time for people to complain about whatever he does but not enough time for someone to actually effect material change in the job
so that could take the wind out of the sails of folks like Mamdani/Myrie/Lander as challengers without providing enough momentum in a progressive movement to counteract.
The only "right" thing to do even if the request for dismissal is obviously corrupt.
Anyway I don't think Adams is going to straighten up and fly right, and no doubt he has committed New York crimes that the feds can't claim to preempt now....
“Some will undoubtedly find today's decision unsatisfying, wondering why, if DOJ's ostensible reasons for dropping this case are so troubling, the Court does not simply deny the Motion to Dismiss altogether...”
“The Southern District of New York prosecutors who worked on this case followed all appropriate Justice Department guidelines. There is no evidence—zero—that they had any improper motives.”
“DOJ’s assertion that it has ‘virtually unreviewable’ license to dismiss charges on this basis is disturbing in its breadth, implying that public officials may receive special dispensation if they are compliant with the incumbent administration’s policy priorities.”

And state charges should also follow.
