My first vote for President was in 1980 for Jimmy Carter.

I knew Ronald Reagan opening his campaign on the site of slain Civil Rights workers in Mississippi portended an awful presidency. The awful we've had from Republicans since comes from them taking the Dixiecrats. It was inevitable.

Good point. The Southern DNC had their own problems, but that election was a seismic shift to the far right, and nostalgia for a past that never existed, hand in hand with union busting and corporate greed the likes of which had not been seen, amongst
